Market Close
While demand on the UK gas system remained well above the seasonal norm, the supply side coped more
comfortably on Wednesday. The spot price rose but day ahead and week ahead contracts fell slightly on the day. On the futures market, contracts for the summer months fell by an average of 0.40p and while the front winter shed 0.68p, seasonal contracts further out the curve fell by just over 0.30p on average. Crude oil prices saw their biggest day-on-day losses in 6 weeks yesterday on bearish data from the U.S. EIA with Brent crude shedding $1.96 a barrel.
