A more comfortable supply-demand balance on the UK gas system on Friday saw prompt and near futures gas prices ease on the day. Within day and day ahead prices

fell by 0.50p and 1.40p. The front month was down by 0.62p while the summer months generally shed an average of 0.45p. The see-saw pattern of trading on crude oil markets continued on Friday with Brent crude gaining 72 cents to settle at $71.55.

Market Update

  • Monday 01 July 2019:The global crude oil benchmark, Brent crude, was unchanged day-on-day, closing at $66.55 again on Friday while U.S. crude-oil prices closed down 1.6% at $58.47 a barrel

  • Monday 01 July 2019:New data from the U.S. showed an increase in drilling activity last week which could unbalance a market where demand growth continues slow

  • Monday 01 July 2019:UK gas futures recorded losses across the board on Friday as crude oil prices were unchanged day-on-day and the Winter 19 contract fell below 50.00p

  • Monday 01 July 2019:Demand could have fallen lower but for strong export flows to Belgium where a positive differential to the NBP is attracting gas via the UK system
