With temperatures above average for this time of year and wind generation pushing 10GW, demand on the UK gas system fell to 27% below the seasonal norm yesterday. The spot and day ahead

contracts shed 1.60p and 1.15p respectively but the balance-of-month contract gained 2.10p, halving Monday's sharp decline. Gas futures prices gained across the board with November and December recording the biggest gains of 0.79p and 0.74p. Crude oil prices traded higher for most of the day again on Tuesday but the global benchmark, Brent crude, fell back in late trading to close 11 cents lower day-on-day at $58.24.
