As temperatures fell on Friday, demand on the UK gas system rose to 320MCM or 25MCM above the seasonal norm. Falling wind availability drove gas-fired
power demand higher, increasing overall demand on the day. The system was comfortably supplied despite the increased demand and prompt prices eased as a result, day ahead shedding 0.50p and the week ahead contract for this week fell by 0.85p. For a second consecutive session, gas futures recorded relatively uniform losses averaging 0.46p across the board. Brent crude was shed $1.44 a barrel to settle at $62.43.
