Oil prices picked up on Wednesday following an apparent slow-down in the increase of new cases of the coronavirus in China. Brent crude gained
$1.78 to settle at $55.79 a barrel. Gas demand increased to match the seasonal norm as cold weather continued to prevail over Britain and Ireland. Prompt gas prices finished slightly higher day-on-day while near futures contracts gained marginally. Longer-dated contracts recorded more substantial gains with support from the rebound in oil prices on the day.
